Casting down imaginations

2 Cor. 10:5- Casting down imaginations, and everthing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

How many times have we as humans been accused of saying or doing something we didn’t do?  How many times have we done something for one reason and it was understood  in another negative way?  The communicator becomes agitated because they have mistakenly offended someone .  The offended person gathers more negative thoughts of the person who made the offensive comments.  To the individuals the problem is real, but in actuality it is just an imagination.  This circle of confusion can go on and on, destroying or significantly tearing down relationships.   Imagination is defined as the formation of a mental image of something that is neither perceived as real nor present to the senses.
This problem of imaginations is a major way the enemy of God, Satan, destroys Christians.  We as Christians are called to first listen to the spirit of God within us to disseminate all things that enter our mind (soul).  To understand this process we understand human beings are separated into three parts… flesh, soul, and spirit.  How we operate in these three parts affects our relationship with God.  The Apostle Paul summed it up when he stated in Gal 5:17 of the KJV bible, “For the flesh lusteth against spirit, and the spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot so do the things that you would”.  The flesh and the spirit in us are enemies .  The middle ground of humans is the soul which encompasses our thinking, logic, opinion, and partly emotions. This area is the prize for both God and Satan.  If your mind (soul) is on God (Jesus) and to do his will your soul is clinging to the spirit of the man.  If your mind (soul) is consistently on anything outside of God (Jesus) then your soul is clinging to the flesh of the man.
When we as Christians misunderstand something and become offended by it, we have fallen into imaginations. The Apostle Paul tells us to cast down imaginations and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into the captivity of Christ.  By taking every thought that enters our mind and consulting Gods spirit about it before we respond will ultimately give us more victory in our journey through life.
